Mayor's Remarks

"Vancouver’s Chinatown has been a significant cultural hub for our Chinese community for more than one hundred years.

It’s a special place where members of our Chinese Canadian community have lived, worked, shopped, dined and celebrated heritage and tradition.

Chinatown has also welcomed Vancouverites and visitors from all over to enjoy all that it offers.

Recent years have been a challenge for Chinatown.

Social and economic pressures along with the unprecedented effects of a global pandemic have taken their toll on the neighbourhood.

But at the City of Vancouver, we’re committed to revitalizing this neighbourhood.

A vibrant Chinatown will include a thriving economy, strong community and reinvigorated culture and heritage.

Chinatown Reimagined highlights the vital work done so far by our Legacy Stewardship Group, Chinatown Transformation Team, and community partners.

Thank you for taking part in Chinatown Reimagined, which was made possible through our partnership with UBC. Your support and feedback are important as we work on a brighter future for Chinatown."
